Achieving health equity, eliminating disparities and improving health of all groups is an overarching goal of Healthy People 2020. According to American Public Health Association, Inequities are created when barriers prevent individuals and communities from accessing opportunities and reaching their full potential.
While many organizations strive to provide equitable services, there are still gaps in access to care, healthy living opportunities, and disease prevention in Williamson County. The 2018 Conference on Health Equity will explore how Health Equity relates to Williamson County’s Top 5 Health Priorities of Mental Health, Access to Healthcare, Awareness of Healthcare Resources, Active Living, and Chronic Disease.
We hope that conference participants will leave with a better understanding of Health Equity, why it matters, and steps individuals and organizations can take to contribute to a culture of Health Equity for all who work and reside in Williamson County, TX.
