HOW WE STARTED
- Williamson County, Texas was one of 13 communities in the US to be selected to become part of the Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental ChangE (ACHIEVE) initiative.
- Goal: to advance community leadership to prevent chronic diseases and related risk factors through a locally collaborative approach. Supported by a three-year grant.
The WilCo Wellness Alliance coalition was formed as a county-wide approach replicating steps in the ACHIEVE model:
- Coalition building
- Community assessment
- Identification of priority areas/projects
- Formation of steering groups
- Implementation and evaluation of projects
