Blueprint to End Homelessness
An Effective Practice
Description
The Indianapolis Housing Task Force worked with 450 individuals and 150 community organizations to develop Blueprint to End Homelessness. The goal of Blueprint is to prevent homelessness while also improving access to services for those currently experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis.
Blueprint focuses primarily on helping individuals and families access and sustain permanent housing and then works to provide support services as needed, such as social, medical, educational, and employment services. Blueprint also works to prevent people from becoming homeless by providing rental subsidies and supportive housing to vulnerable populations, including individuals who have just left the criminal justice or foster care systems.

Goal / Mission
The goal of Blueprint to End Homelessness is to prevent people from becoming homeless and to improve access to services for those currently experiencing homelessness.
Results / Accomplishments
In 2002, it was estimated that approximately 3,000 people within Indianapolis were experiencing homelessness on any given night. Blueprint has thus far succeeded in reducing that number by half, such that approximately 1,500 people were experiencing homelessness when counts were conducted in 2008, 2009, and 2010.
